Our client the London Borough of Redbridge was working toward “Green Flag” status for Elmhurst Gardens Park. The park is beautifully landscaped and maintained and is a well used area by families.
The park has a double sized tennis court, which although serviceable was not up to standard of a “Green Flag” area.
The Havering Fencing Company was called in to advise and budget cost the project. Our inspection revealed the surfacing was serviceable, as was most of the steel posts, although many were beginning to corrode, and the chain link mesh was becoming dangerous and unserviceable.
The mesh was removed, various posts replaced, and all the remaining posts treated and decorated, the gates were overhauled and strengthened. Finally the entire court perimeter was re – clad with a combination of 2.75M high and 3.6M high galvanized core chain link fencing. The chain link is of a heavy gauge and is supported on heavy line wires which should alleviate the problems of sagging and curling usually found when light gauge chain link is installed which usually is as a cost cutting measure, false economy.
Finally, the surface was decorated and relined in traditional colours, using specialist asphalt based top coatings.
The finished result was impressive and should assist the park in its “Green Flag” status.
Reworking and repairing dilapidated structures is a very economical way of bringing life back to seemingly redundant fencing and gates, but must be done properly to achieve the longevity that will justify the cost. |
